Copyright Info

We have tried to set things up so that the songs can be listened to, tried out and used with the minimum of legal hassle. However, it is in everyone's interests to have the "legal bits" clearly spelt out, so here goes. (If this sounds too prescriptive, forgive us.)

Outline

Who owns the copyright to the songs on the site?

What is the "Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) Scheme"?

What you definitely can do with the files on this website

What you can do with the songs on this website if your church/organisation is covered by the appropriate CCLI licence

What you cannot do without the copyright owner's prior written permission

Who owns the copyright to the songs on the site?

For each song, the lyric sheet and/or sheet music give the copyright details.  The copyright is clearly described as falling into one of the following categories:

(1) - the copyright to both the lyrics and the music is totally owned by Three Legged Music Limited

(2) - the music copyright is owned by Three Legged Music, but the lyrics are effectively "public domain" e.g. words written by hymn writers of long ago such as Charles Wesley and not significantly altered by one of our writers.

(3) - (this category applies to songs with lyrics written by Timothy Dudley-Smith)

     - the copyright to the music is owned by Three Legged Music

     - the copyright to the lyrics in Europe (including Great Britain and Ireland) and in Africa is owned by Timothy Dudley-Smith

     - the copyright to the lyrics in the rest of the world (including the U.S. and Canada) is owned by Hope Publishing Co. of the US.

Three Legged Music Limited can be contacted by e-mail or post (see Contact Us page)

Timothy Dudley-Smith can be contacted at 9 Ashlands, Ford, Salisbury, SP4 6DY, Great Britain (Please enclose a stamped & self-addressed envelope for a reply). See also www.timothydudley-smith.com

Hope Publishing can be contacted at Hope Publishing Co., 380 South Main Place, Carol Stream, IL 60188 USA.  Tel: 800-323-1049.  See also www.hopepublishing.com

Note:  Timothy Dudley-Smith is one of the most widely published and respected contemporary English hymn writers. (More about Timothy Dudley-Smith).  It is a great privilege to be able to include here the words for some of his many hymns set to new tunes written specifically for them.  These words are included here by kind permission of Timothy Dudley-Smith and Hope Publishing Co.

Please read all the information on this Copyright Info page before downloading any of the files containing material by Timothy-Dudley-Smith. By downloading you agree to abide by the conditions as set out on this page.

If you do not hold a Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) licence (see below) or wish to use any of Timothy Dudley-Smith's material outside the terms of the licence, you must seek written permission from both Three Legged Music Limited and from either Timothy Dudley-Smith (if you live in Europe, including Great Britain and Ireland, and Africa) or Hope Publishing Co. (if you live in the USA, Canada or the rest of the world).

What is the "Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) Scheme"?

Under this scheme, churches and other organisations (such as schools) pay a modest fee each year to an independent company in return for the right to use any of the thousands of songs covered by the scheme. The size of the fee depends on the size of the organisation.  CCLI runs different kinds of schemes in different countries.

If you want to know more about how the CCLI scheme operates in your country, the best thing to do is to visit the company's excellent website. As well as explaining the intricacies of copyright law in simple language and how to apply for a CCLI license, the site contains regularly updated features on worship and an extensive set of links to relevant websites. Click here to visit their site:

www.ccli.com

The CCLI scheme simplifies life for organisations and helps them to be sure they are following the law. It also helps to support the ministry of many Christian songwriters. In the case of Three Legged Music, the first thing any proceeds will be used for is to offset the costs of setting up and running this website!
